Welcome to Le Manivert, a former hunting lodge built in 1795, in the midst of the French Revolution. The origin of the name is lost in the mists of time. One story tells of a previous owner, who was called ‘Mani’. Another talks of a contraction between ‘manoir’ and ‘vert’, the ‘green manor’. In any case, the old stones breathe history and, in a long timeline, we are but a short passage. We want to honour the house by opening it to passers-by who want to spend two or more nights there.
The house is on a cul-de-sac in the middle of the rural hills of the Nièvre, in Burgundy. Surrounded by stately old trees that provide shade and coolness in summer, it is a haven of peace. True silence still reigns, interrupted only by the song of a nightingale or the call of a buzzard. Silence is synonymous with the rustle of the wind. Well aware of how privileged we are, we are delighted to offer guests a warm and unique stay.
Where she inherited the love for cooking by tasting and smelling her father's pots, he learnd about wine and obtained the Sommelier certificate. His challenge is to find fine, affordable, local wines to match each of her dishes.

Les Chênes
These two rooms are located on the first floor and are connected by a sitting room with library. There is a shared bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. These rooms can be taken together by a group of maximum 4 people who want to share a bathroom. Price € 134 for a room for two people, per night, breakfast included. € 42 per extra person, breakfast included. Free Wifi. Non-smoking rooms. Min 4% when booking directly.

NATURE
A stone's throw from Le Manivert, the Morvan begins, a vast nature reserve with the purest air in France. The department of Niévre is renowned for its forests and in the Morvan you will find them in abundance. You can go swimming, walking, cycling or just lie in the grass or under the trees and enjoy what is happening above your head. You may even see a shooting star in the clear night sky.

HISTORY
The Romans already knew: The Nièvre is a good place to be. Their traces can be found in Autun, which is further away, but also nearby, in Compierre. You can go for a walk in the woods between the remains of a Roman settlement. The entire region is bathed in the Middle Ages. A crusade once departed from Vézelay and the beautiful basilica contains the relics of Saint Magdalene. WWII is not far away because of the memorial sites for the fallen in the Maquis, where resistance groups hid. There are surprising discoveries to be made.

The Nièvre is surrounded by well-known and lesser-known wine regions, each of which has its own identity. Nowhere in France you are far from vineyards. The youngest appellation in France, the AOP Vézelay, is located nearby.
